homegroups.

The Victoria Junior College Interact Club consists of four homegroups, which are located at different places. Of these four groups, three involve mentoring children and one involves dealing with elderly.

Chai Chee (Children)

The kids at Chai chee children range from lower primary to upper secondary school. Despite coming from less privileged families, they are bubbly, bursting with enthusiasm and portray an immense eagerness to learn. We, as mentors, play a vital role not only as tutors, but more so of a confidant and one who listens to their problems. At times, it is fun to be entertained by their antics and play along. However, these kids do get emotionally attached to you after some time, so dedication on our part is imperative! The English and Math curriculum is set by Sunlove organisation and to spice things up a little, there are monthly birthday parties for the kids too, which encourage bonding. The largest HG in Interact Club is certainly a close-knit family!

Chai Chee (Elderly)

SunLove Home, Blk 30, Chai Chee Avenue, #01-150

We visit the elderly staying in one-room flat at Chai Chee weekly. What we usually do is to help to clean up the flats and occasionally we would get to do painting too! It is enriching to hear what the elderly have to share and we often find ourselves giving a different unexplainable kind of concern to the elderly. Do come and join us for a different whole new experience!

Telok Kurau FSC

In Telok Kurau home group, we mainly mentor primary school children in Telok Kurau Primary School every Wednesday from 3.30-5pm. Our responsibility is to guide the students in their Mathematics and English homework assigned by their respective teachers. Many of these students are weak in their studies and hence, we need to be really patient when teaching them. We also organise other activities such as a mini sports day or excursions for the students to relax as well as to get to know one another better

St. Stephens’ Mentoring

We go down to St Stephen's School every Monday from 3.30 to 5 pm to coach the primary six boys who are weak in Mathematics. What we usually do is to help them grasp the concepts and methods of working out Math problems better. This is done by going through the practice papers their teachers have prepared for them. It may sound boring and monotonous but ...the children there are very hyper so it may be quite challenging to teach them, as their attention span isn't very long! But you will definitely find the mentoring process fun and fulfilling as these kids will slowly get very attached to you and treat you as their buddies and friends! So...what are you waiting for? Come join us and bring out the "teacher" in you and at the same time, build up a strong rapport with the children! (:

CDAC Mentoring

This homgroup deals with children of upper primary to lower secondary level. Every week, we go down to the CDAC HQ and mentor the children for around an hour and a half before engaging them in games also planned by us.
