PROJECT HEARTS 2008 – HElping through the ARTS
Project Hearts is a fund-raising project initiated by a team of J3s from Raffles Junior College in aid of Very Special Arts(VSA) in this year's Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes programme, which is jointly organised by Citibank and the YMCA of Singapore, sponsored by the Citigroup Foundation and an event of the President's Challenge 2008.
The main aim of Project Hearts is to raise funds for Very Special Arts (VSA), a non-profit charity whose main aim is to provide people with disabilities with opportunities to access the arts for rehabilitation and social integration.
With a seed funding of $5000, Team Project Hearts hopes to raise a projected target of $50,000 for VSA, which will eventually be put to use in their various therapeutic activities with their beneficiaries
Our team is adopting a 4-pronged approach for fund-raising as follows:
· Street Sales of Heart-shaped Balloons
· Street Sales of Pebble Magnets
· Street Collection of Public Pledges
· Street Music Festival
1. Street Sales of Heart-shaped Balloons
Dates: 12, 13, 19 and 20 July
Duration: 10am to 6pm (Shift 1: 10am to 2.30pm and Shift 2: 1.30pm to 6pm)
Venue: Orchard Road
Description: Heart-shaped balloon sales
Who We Need: 60 volunteers per shift
* We encourage individuals with experience in handling helium balloons to volunteer.
2. Street Sales of Pebble Magnets
Dates: 26 and 27 July and 2 and 3 August
Duration: 9am to 6pm (Shift 1: 9am to 2pm and Shift 2: 1pm to 6pm)
Venue: Islandwide
Description: Handmade pebble magnet sales
Who We Need: 60 volunteers per shift
3. Street Collection of Public Pledges
Dates: 26 and 27 July and 2 and 3 August
Duration: 9am to 6pm (Shift 1: 10am to 2.30pm and Shift 2: 1.30pm to 6pm)
Venue: Islandwide
Description: Volunteers will carry large information placards promoting VSA's cause and Project Hearts and dedication boards. The public will encouraged to make dedications of at least $2 and write a message or draw on the dedication boards to encourage the disabled artists.
Who We Need: 60 volunteers per shift
4. Street Music Festival
Dates: 16 and 17 August
Duration: 11am to 6pm
Venue: Orchard Streets
Description: A street music festival with performing arts groups busking on the streets to raise funds
Who We Need:
1.8 performing arts groups per day
2. 100 volunteers per day
